As the reproduction period of males is longer than that of females, it is revealed that sex differences and age differences affect the allocation patterns of inheritances. Males allocate larger inheritances to their spouses than females do. In addition the older the females grow, the larger the inheritances received by them become. The present study aimed to investigate the influences of the evolutional and cultural factors on the allocation patterns of inheritances. The students (N = 111) and adults (N = 101) were asked to imagine situations wherein they had to allocate their inheritances to imaginary spouses and children. The results revealed that (a) males allocated larger inheritances to spouses than females did;(b) the older the females grow, the lesser the allocations to their spouses become; (c)the older male children grow, the greater the allocations to their spouses become. The analyses indicated the importance of the cultural factor in the allocation patterns of inheritances. Thus, the allocation patterns of inheritances depend on the characteristics of the countries and societies.
