This article aims to depict the manner in which the collective peace-loving identity among the states in the United Nations (UN) has changed. Frequency of the usage of the word “peace-loving” in discussions in the UN, similar to the statement “my country is a peace-loving state,” has declined considerably from its peak in the first half of the 1980s to 1990 and remains low to 2020 when we observed the actual usage of the word. This decrease in the usage of the expression “peace-loving” is a curious phenomenon. What process did this expression, which indicates collective state identities, go through such that its usage faded away in the UN? There is no research on the transition of the peaceloving states in International Relations although several studies on state identity formation exist that focus on one country or some regions, such as Europe and South East Asia. Therefore, this study attempts to reveal the process of change in the peace-loving states with quantitative data using numerous documents of the UN while relying on the extant literature on International Relations and Sociology.
