Abstract	With the aim of improving the educational environment, the Institute for Higher Education Research and Practice (IHERP) , the department responsible for undergraduate general education at Osaka University, is regularly holding hearings for its main beneficiaries, first-year students. ln these hearings， we found that most students had a strong desire for a preliminary period to experience the actual classes before registration. ln order to examine the feasibility of its implementation on our university, we conducted three hearings, investigating the universities that have already implemented the preliminary periods of registration. This paper will present the results of our investigations， the problems of implementation which might be caused by the imperative for “ the embodiment of credit system，" and possible solutions.
