In order to think about the role of religious culture in the reconstruction from natural disaster, we adopt "vulnerability/resilience" paradigm, and refer to the discussion about the relationship between resilience and religious culture. Next, we consider expectations of religious culture for the reconstruction process, including the critical question of what constitutes "reconstruction," especially its links with subsistence, i.e., human activity in relation with nature. Finally we describe some aspects of religious culture linked with sustainability and change of subsistence in one area, and future prospects of religious researchers' engagement in the process of reconstruction.
