This article, as a part of my study in aesthetic experience and evaluation of “art project,”examines “infrastructural aesthetics” discussed by a theatre and performance studies scholar Shannon Jackson in Social Works (2011). She points out an institutional critique of dichotomies such as ergon/parergon autonomy/heteronomy as background of socially engaged, cross-medium artistic practices. According to her, the fundamental “medium” and “technique” of such art is the “time” shared by artists with the public. However, her argument is erroneous that the performance art is more socially engaged and cross-medial than other arts, because the performance art is time-based and infrastructural to other arts.
