Various historical materials refer to the garrison of the Dai-on ulus (the Yuan Dynasty) in south China. They are Yuan-shi in classical Chinese, Ta-Yuan sheng-cheng kuo-ch'ao tien-chang (Yuan-tien-chang) in "translationese Chinese" in Mongolian word order. Jami' al-Tavarikh in Persian, Marco Polo's The description of the world in ancient French and Italian and others. This study translates these reference materials into Japanese, and discusses policies of the Dai-on ulus toward its garrison in south China. The conclusions are as follows : 1) The expeditionary forces of the Dai-on ulus which advanced to the area of southern Song became a garrison in south China. They occupied cities and began to rule them. Even though these leaders of these forces returned to Mongolia, because of Sirigi's rebellion. Subsequently the officers and soldiers who remained in south China became oppressors of the citizens. 2) At the end of 1276, the government of the Dai-on ulus enacted a change from the military administration to civil one in south China. 3) The government carried out certain policies toward the garrison since 1278. These policies enforced (1) residence inside the garrison. (2) prohibition from civil administration, (3) return of the greater part of the ≪Mongolian army≫ (with Mongol officers but Chinese soldiers) to north China, and (4) selective absorption of armies of the southern Song. 4) After 1282, the parrison was transferred several times.
