Abstract	Japan was the first in the world to enter a super-aging society. Postoperative delirium, effects of surgery on an aging body and mind cause a subsequent decline in cognitive function and affect postoperative quality of life and prognosis. Therefore, an urgent need exists to build evidence for interventions that fully recognize the significance of risk and prevent postoperative delirium. Before surgery, high-risk patients are screened, and after surgery, delirium is monitored with an assessment tool to detect early symptoms. Effective preventive interventions require a multidisciplinary team practice. In the future, it is necessary to conduct clinical research with the Interprofessional Team that is effective in controlling postoperative delirium in elderly patients, and the professionality of perioperative nurses in that team.
