Abstract
Since material evaluation using nonlinear acoustics is a different technique from conventional linear ultrasonic techniques in principle, its phenomena are difficult to understand using fundamental data such as waveforms and frequency spectra. In this study, therefore, higher harmonic waves generated at a contacting surface of aluminum blocks were experimentally visualized. An ultrasonic wave was emitted from the lateral side of the block and a longitudinal wave propagating on the top side of the block was detected by a laser Doppler vibrometer at many points, then animations of the ultrasonic waves were constructed. From these results, a second harmonic generation at the contacting surface was observed.
