Abstract
Sub-harmonic wave generation at double contact interfaces consisting of a thin aluminum alloy layer sandwiched by aluminum alloy blocks was numerically analyzed. If a separable spring model is introduced to a one dimensional finite difference time domain scheme, the calculation results qualitatively agree with the experimental ones in variation of sub-harmonic wave amplitude. The amplitude variations of sub-harmonic waves with incident wave amplitude, interfacial stiffness, contact pressure, frequency, and layer thickness revealed that the sub-harmonic generation is caused by the complicated wave field at the double interfaces and thin layer as well as the separation of interfaces.
