Abstract	This paper offers some reflections from an ethics perspective on the perspectives in which the describer places himself/herself when describing what an intentional acts are in communication. The issues that are kept in mind are the following. Generally, a description of an intentional act by the actor himself is considered more valid than a description by others. However, if the act directly affects others, there may be a description of the act from the affected party, and that description will often be different from the description by the actor himself/herself. In such cases, it may not be sufficient to consider only the description from the actorʼs side, unlike the case where the act does not directly affect others. As a starting point for approaching this issue, this paper takes G. E. M. Anscombeʼs classical theory of acts. However, in approaching the ethical issues related to linguistic acts from there, we will mainly draw on Jürgen Habermasʼ theory of communicative acts and the ethics of debate. In particular, this paper focuses on the second-person perspective in which parties must place themselves when acts are described or redescribed in communication. This is the analogous to “I-thou” attitude of Martin Buber or the perspective that is in line with what Stephen Darwall calls the “second-person perspective”. In Anscombeʼs analysis of intentional acts, this perspective is not taken into account. Therefore, it would be of some significance to revisit this issue in light of the perspectives enumerated here.
