Abstract
The nonlinear evolution of convective heat transport and other physical quantities of plasmas subjected to ion-temperature-gradient (ITG) instabilities were examined using a low-degree-of-freedom model composed of 18 ordinary differential equations (ODE). Edge localized mode (ELM)-like intermittent bursts, so called avalanches were observed when the turbulence was strong. It was found that the role of the viscosity was essential for the occurrence of intermittency. The simulation results show that at least third harmonics in the x direction is included in order to obtain intermittent oscillations.
