Abstract
The general expression of the power transfer from a high-energy ion beam to a background electrostatic plasma wave is obtained for arbitrary wave amplitude. It is verified that phase space gradients produced by a finite amplitude wave enhance the power transfer significantly. © 1990 American Institute of Physics.
